Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: 't Lievertje Bloemisten, Spui 7, 1012 XG Amsterdam, Netherlands

The meeting point for this tour is next to a small statue of a boy, aptly named “het Lieverdje,” or “the little Sweetheart.” It was installed in 1960 as an ode to the street urchins of Amsterdam, always mischievous, but with a heart of gold. You will hear about how this little statue became the centre point of subversive happenings in the 1960s and 70s.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Spui, Amsterdam The Netherlands

We’ll make our way across the Spui for our first tasting. Meaning sluice in Dutch, originally there was a sluice here. In 1867 it was filled up and turned into a square. The Spui is jampacked with history. It’s also the location of one of Amsterdam’s oldest bars: café Hoppe, dating from 1670, and traditionally the favourite hang out of journalists and writers.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Begijnhof, Gedempte Begijnensloot, 1012 RM Amsterdam The Netherlands

On the Spui, behind a big wooden door, you will find a hidden treasure: the Begijnhof. It’s the oldest ‘hofje’ of Amsterdam and was built in the 1300’s. You’ll hear a bit about it’s history, and if you want to know more you can visit during daytime.

Voetboogstraat: This street is named after a type of crossbow, because in the 15th century the shooting range of the crossbow archer’s guild was situated here. These days it’s a lively entertainment area with lots of bars and restaurants, especially popular amongst students. We will take you to Amsterdam’s most famous Flemish French fry shop that’s been here since 1957. Be prepared for a wait, as the line often stretches all the way around the corner.

Duration: 25 minutes

Stop At: Magna Plaza, Spuistraat 168, 1012 VT Amsterdam The Netherlands

We’ll be having a herring next to this exuberantly decorated building, originally built in the 1890s as the Main Post Office. Nowadays it is a shopping centre with a newly opened food department. Worth checking out if you’re looking to continue your food tasting feast!

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Royal Palace Amsterdam, Dam, 1012 RJ Amsterdam The Netherlands

While enjoying a herring you’ll be looking out at the Royal Palace, originally built as a town hall in 1648 and eventually given to the freshly appointed King Willem I in 1813. It is used by the king for entertaining and official functions during state visits and other official receptions. It is also open for visitors.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Amsterdam Museum, Kalverstraat 92, 1012 PH Amsterdam The Netherlands

On your way to taste some more Dutch street food, you will traverse the grounds of the Amsterdam Museum. Originally this was the site of one of the 21 monasteries you could find in 15th century Amsterdam. The museum is well worth visiting to learn more about the history of Amsterdam.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Wynand Fockink, Pijlsteeg 31, 1012 HH Amsterdam The Netherlands

This tour will end with a delicious liqueur or brandy from the immensely popular Wijnand Fockinck. There has been a distillery and bar on this site since 1670, and they still produce an incredible range of jenevers, fruity brandy wines, and refined liqueurs with illustrious names like “Walk in the forest.” Slurp a few glasses from the bar in traditional Dutch manner, or buy a bottle to take home with you!

Tour conducted in the non-touristy part of town. Very leisurely pace - excellent food samples. Great fun and group small enough to really enjoy the tour. Thank you!

Wow! This is the first time my kids and I tried a food tour ... Im very glad we did !!! Tyler is a fabulous guide and now we are going to try more food tours in other cities we go to. We were so blessed that we were the only ones in the tour so we got to go faster - which meant more treats ...we had 7 !!! The best for us were the french fries . Yuuuuuum Tyler is also a good tourist guide so that was also an added treat getting to know more l things about Amsterdam.like why the houses in Amsterdam tilt forward and many very interesting fun facts . Thank you again Tyler !

Our guide Arthur was great. He shared local knowledge withi casual eating. The walking pace was comfortable and we didn’t feel rushed. The food was on the go fast food with a good variety. We were on the go for several hours. It was really enjoyable.

It was an interesting way of discovering local culture and we were only 4 so felt like a private tour. Tyler gave a nice walk between places we had samples of truly authentic local food and plenty of them and offered us tips about were to eat and shop. The tour finished at a central pub near the Dam square. It is a bit pricey but with the discount from Viator it was OK.

The food tour was great. Just six of us, so plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get to know our fellow travelers. Our guide knew lots of places with local fare and information about what we were snacking on. We learned that French Fries originated in Belgium - sorry France. They are twice fried to make them crispy on the outside without being overdone inside. Local custom is a take-away paper cone with fries and chili or other toppings. We now look for food tours in addition to cathedrals and famous art. Thanks Viator!!
