Depending on the start time selected at checkout, meet your guide outside of your hotel lobby at 9am or 1pm. From here, you’ll make your way to the nearest metro station for the short and easy journey to the Summer Palace (Yiheyuan), a UNESCO World Heritage site.

During your journey, your guide provides a historical overview of the landmark, which was built in 1750 as a royal residence and is widely considered a masterpiece of Chinese landscape design.

Once you arrive at the Summer Palace, you will enter from the East Gate of the palace and visit some of the most important buildings, such as the Hall of Benevolence and Longevity, it takes you back to the time when the emperors built these places as a route to heaven; The Hall of Happiness and Longevity, it was the residence of Empress Dowager Cixi during her stay in the Summer Palace; The Long Corridor, it is a covered walkway in the Summer Palace; The Marble Boat, it is an ornamental structure in classical Chinese landscaping; The Hall of Dispelling Clouds, it is situated on the central axis of Longevity Hill and is the heart of a succession of buildings used for celebrations.

We spent an enjoyable afternoon with our guide, Leo. He promptly picked us up at our hotel after confirming the time and date the day prior. While navigating the metro system of Beijing, he safely led our party of four to the Summer Palace. His thorough knowledge of the history and culture of the country, and the era of The Dragon Lady Cixi, helped us to fully appreciate the magnificent site. It was a beautiful and warm day for our visit, with throngs of local tourists visiting which added to our experience! We feel fortunate to have had such an excellent guide to see the Summer Palace!
