This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Mutianyu Great Wall, Mutianyu Road, Huairou District, Beijing China

Note: The start and end times will vary depending on traffic and road conditions

Your day starts with hotel pickup in Beijing city centre followed by a drive of approximately 1-hour to reach the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. This UNESCO World Heritage architectural wonder was constructed more then 2,500 years ago to protect the Chinese from fierce northern tribes.

On a nearly-empty part of the wall, take an easy walk with frequent stops for photo opportunities and rest along the way. All along the Great Wall, imposing stone watchtowers stand tall above the landscape. Sit down for a picnic break inside one of these well-preserved watchtowers — an exclusive experience that’s only available with this tour. Sip on chilled sparkling wine paired with your picnic lunch as you enjoy views over the countryside. (See sample menu under Itinerary below.)

Your guide will share the history of this masterpiece and describe how the Great Wall outposts controlled the borders and regulated traffic during the time of the Silk Road. When you have finished your great wall trip, your guide will return you to your Beijing hotel where your tour ends OR you have the choice to get dropped off at the 798 Art Zone.

The 798 Art Zone, located in northwest Beijing is an enormous 1950s factory that has been transformed into an arts center, with galleries, studios, museums, boutiques, cafés and bars. Take a look around on your own expense and enjoy a drink or dinner at a local restaurant before making your own way back to your hotel.

Traffic was not good, so this left us with only a small amount of time at the Great Wall. We returned to our hotel later than expected, which was okay because we didn't have any other plans for the day. My concern is that when we arrived back at the hotel, we were harassed to give tips to both the driver and the tour guide. At no other location in China is tipping expected, so we were thrown off by the way we were treated regarding tips. Yes, the tour was longer than expected, only due to traffic, which was out of our control. However, when you return to your hotel, it is uncomfortable when you are harassed until you give the driver and tour guide the remaining amount of money you have left in your wallet, without stopping until you show them you have no more money left to give. Luckily for us, we only brought with us a small amount. I wouldn't have been able to successfully make the trip to the Great Wall without a private car and the tour guide was helpful, however, I cannot say that I would recommend this tour based on the way we were treated upon our return to our hotel. Also, be prepared because you will need an additional 120rmb per person to use the lift to get up to the Great Wall, this is not already included in the cost.

We only had one day to go to the Great Wall and it turned out it was pouring rain on the day we went. The weather didn't stop us going and despite the weather our tour guide was so positive and also endured the rain to show us around. Champagne followed at lunch. It was the best day!!

An absolutely amazing tour guide, full of energy and enthusiasm. Great way to see the wall and I would definitely recommend the toboggan down from the wall. This was the highlight of our trip in China.
