Founded by Alexander the Great in 334 B.C. and capital of Egypt for about 1,000 years, Alexandria was one of the most important cities of the Mediterranean and was second only to Rome. Now it is the second biggest city of Egypt and the biggest city bordering the Mediterranean. Your guide will pick you up from your accommodation at 7am with a modern a/c van with WiFi on board. The journey takes about 3 hours each way.

In Alexandria you will visit the catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa (one of the seven wonders of the Middle Ages), Pompey's pillar and the Serapium (the temple of god Serapis), the Fort of Qaitbay (the site of the ancient lighthouse, Pharos), the Roman amphitheater and the New Library of Alexandria.Lunch in a seafood restaurant is included. At the end of the tour you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Fantastic day in the historic city of Alexandria, Tour guide was incredibly informative and helpful with all queries. Would most certainly recommend this tour.

We had to pay for every single site we entered... which the listing does not say. Got overcharged at lunch for our drinks, unless our guide had us pay for his (which I think is what happened). Our guide had a pretty heavy accent so we didn't understand around a third to a half of the information he was giving us and we gave up on trying to make him repeat everything. At one of the sites, he gave us two minutes of quick information then had us go walk around by ourselves the rest of the time, while he sat and talked to a friend. We got home, looked at the itinerary and realized we did not even go to all of the sites. One of the sites we did go to, he discouraged us to go in to because "Most people don't, you can see it all from here". Then, hours early, the tour ended and we had the long ride back with just the driver, and not the tour guide. The driver was really nice, but didn't know much English so we wouldn't have been able to ask any questions. Overall, felt like the entire time the tour guide was doing the absolute minumum and making us pay when we weren't supposed to... unless this tour listing really just doesn't include that you have to pay for every single site. But don't book unless you're expecting to pay a lot extra on top of the price, and make sure you know every site you're supposed to visit. There are different companies who do this same tour, so I'm sure you can have a lovely time (like I always have when booking a tour on Viator) but man, what a waste of money and a day. I would have been much happier planning this part myself and not going through Viator, unfortunately. I've waited a long time before leaving this review and it is still, months later, bothering me enough for me to leave it. Very disappointed.
