Pass By: Kasbah Museum, Medina Avenue Hassan II, Chefchaouen 91000 Morocco
The kasbah is a heavily restored walled fortress that now contains a lovely garden, a small ethnographic museum, and an even smaller art gallery. The ethnographic museum contains some fascinating views of old Chefchaouen, including the plaza and the kasbah; the gallery promotes the work of local artists. The views from the kasbah tower over the medina are a delight.
Stop At: Chefchaouen Medina, Chefchaouen Morocco
Chefchaouen, or Chaouen, is a city in the Rif Mountains of northwest Morocco. It’s known for the striking, blue-washed buildings of its old town. Leather and weaving workshops line its steep cobbled lanes. In the shady main square of Place Outa el Hammam is the red-walled Kasbah, a 15th-century fortress and dungeon, and Chefchouen Ethnographic Museum. The octagonal minaret of the Great Mosque rises nearby.

Despite the fact that the pick up is disorganized, and you will definitely get a late start and stop several times for unknown reasons, Chefchaouen is extremely beautiful and a much-needed break from the hustle of Fez. I was tired of guided tours, so I opted out of that and wandered on my own- which I would recommend. The driver was late picking up at the designated spot, and wouldn't take us to our actual riads if they were near the medina,so be aware that you will be on your own in Fez after dark. All this hassle aside, Chefchaouen+surrounding countryside was one of my favorite parts of Morocco!
Everything was fine, except for some individuals in the group that were late in the morning so we spwnt only 2h in the city and then late to leave town so we were back at 8.30.
This is another good place to visit on a day trip from Fez. Our pick up was on time and there were about eight other people on this trip with us. Our driver Ibrahim was friendly and did give some info on towns we passed by and arranged for a local tour guide to take us around town. Get ready for some walking and going up and down stairs in this town. I would recommend a tour guide because of the narrow lanes and alleys that you have to navigate. The guide charged us 20 Moroccon Dhirams per person, which is reasonable for a 3 hour tour. We did have to stop by one of the guide's recommended carpet store. But you can politely let the owner know you are not going to buy anything on this trip. It was cold day during our visit and rained later in the day. So its better to check the weather and prepare before you head out. We departed around 4 PM and were dropped off by our Raid around 8:30 PM. Overall, it was a good day trip and this Blue town reminded us about Santorini in Greece.
The city was worth the trip. The driver was good and even contacted another company on the way back to take me to Casablanca. The tour itself is up to you. The place is small and the tourist avenues are obvious. Great place to explore for a day and a photographers delight.
This is not a tour! You simply get picked up from your Riad at 8 in the morning then its a 4 hour drive to Chefchaouen.. the driver makes one or two stops along the way to take pictures but once you get to Chefchaouen he tells you he will pick you up again at 4. 4 hours is plenty of time to walk around the blue pearl city and take nice pictures. You dont really need a tour guide, will probably be cheaper to find a bus that goes there. The only good thing about this tour was the comfort- had 6 others in the van with us so could stop whenever we needed for snacks/toilet etc.
Quick and super easy way to get to Chefchaouen. Long car ride but company was good, but if you get hungry be sure to bring a snack there is breaks to buy stuff on the way there. Chefchaouen was nicer then all the other main cities and the people were more lovely and no hassling.
