Visit: Trickeye Museum Seoul, 20, Hongik-ro 3-gil, Mapo-gu Seogyo Plaza B2, Seoul 04039 South Korea
Bring your camera and make your way to the Trick Eye Museum, located in the vibrant Seoul district of Hongdae, teeming with Hongik University students and pulsing with the latest nightclubs. The museum is inspired and named after trompe-l’oeil, an art technique that uses realistic imagery to trick the eye into an optical illusion of making painted objects appear in 3D.
Inside, two-dimensional paintings on the museum walls, floors and ceilings seem to pop out and come to life, and have been specially designed for photos. Let your imagination fly as you step into the paintings and capture the most creative poses with your camera. On-site staff are available to help you achieve your trompe-l’oeil art.
Wander through various thematic halls, named Masterpiece, Fantasy, Adventure, Comic, Romantic, Bon Voyage and Illusion Painting. Snap photos that show you climbing out of a portrait, catching money flying out of a dump truck and heaving a huge piece of sushi out of a picture frame.
Get lost in the 'Mirror Maze'; or, change up the pace and check out an educational program on Greek mythology or a current exhibit of a contemporary artist.
Cool things down at the Ice Museum, housed inside the Trick Eye Museum. Walk through a kitchen and living room, watch a TV, ride in a car and pull the reins of a sleigh, all made entirely of ice.
Thirsty or need a snack? Mosey over to the main hall, decorated like Greece’s Santorini, and settle in the café for a cup of hot organic coffee and a muffin (own expense). Scroll through your photos at a table that, you guessed it, features trompe-l’oeil — a hand reaches out of the tabletop for your coffee.

We were staying in a hotel in the Gangnam district, of Seoul, so it was a bit a journey across town to the museum (1.5 hours by taxi - it was 20 minutes to go back, later in the evening), however it was fun. Included was the visit to the Ice Museum, which was a bit of a temperature shock (it was 26° outside, so we were in t-shirts and shorts and it was -2° inside so we were rather under-dressed), which was small but well set up. The trick eye museum itself, was a lot of fun, for all the family (teenager to adult) and was a great way to unwind at the end of a long day, which had included a long plane flight. Certainly worth a visit, to fill up a day or to do something not too serious, during your visit.
Was really hard to find took a taxi and got lost. Much smaller than we anticipated however the displays were pretty cool, especially if you downloaded the Trick Eye app, unfortunately, my phone overheated and we had to turn it off so we didn't get a many pictures as we would have liked. Took about 1 hour to tour entire museum and not really worth the cost..
Fun, fun, fun for the entire family. Worth every penny!
Had so much fun, totally a different kind of museum. Download the app to get the “trick-eye effect”. We got lost going there because the area looks totally different and a lot busier compare to what the area looks like on the internet. We eventually found it but one can ask for directions there.
Awesome experience. Would go again.
Great experience for all ages.
At first, we had a hard time finding the place but eventually came across the sign. We came in at around 6pm and most of the shops inside the museum were already closed by the time we were finished. The museum was very fun though you really have to bring a tripod to take amazing photos. We also went to the Ice House which was very cold so better bring an extra jacket when you plan to go here. The area nearby, Hongik University has many restaurants, shopping places, and street music or performers so it's entertaining to stroll around the place.
